I had a pretty good week, all in all. I didn’t get into any trouble, I didn’t kill anyone, and I didn’t get hurt. All good things. That isn’t to say it was all fun and games. There was the occasional fight between inmates, an ??????attempted assault on an officer, the usual naked-n-crazy guys, and quite a few lesser incidents. All things considered, a good week though.
My Friday (your Monday) started fairly well. I was scheduled to be a transport officer. Lewis County and Clark County do a relay with us to get inmates to our surrounding counties, so on certain days, we transport inmates to and from each county jail. My job on Monday was to do this.
I absolutely love transport. It’s a chance to get out of the jail, and every second away from the hustle and bustle of the jail is a good time. Good for me, right?
Well, I strolled out to booking to find out how many inmates I was taking, only to find there was nobody. Nobody was going anywhere on transport that day. No transport officers would be taking anyone anywhere. Booooooooooo! Not cool. Bad for me. Good day, down the tube.
So I took the long lonely walk back to the locker room to take off my bullet proof vest, since I wouldn’t be needing it anytime soon. It sucked, and it also meant I would have to find somewhere to hide something else to do for the rest of the day.
Lucky for me, around 11am, Sgt. Frank told me that I WAS going to go on the afternoon transport after all. Whoo Hooo!! Some administrative snafu’s happened earlier in the day that got worked out which boded well for me. Yipeee!
Interestingly, when the officers dropped off the transport inmates they told me that one of the transportees had someone call and ask for details about the route we would be taking. Of course, the officers didn’t tell the person anything, but it was sort of unsettling. Needless to say I was a bit more aware of my surroundings on the freeway. Nothing happened, but it was just a bit freaky, ya know.
Anyway, it’s the weekend now. The week is done and gone. Good riddance, farewell, etc, etc. With only one day left of the weekend, I am staring in the face of my new week. Only time will tell how it’s gonna go, but one thing’s for sure… never a dull moment.
